Yuri Ando
Born in Kanagawa in 1998, Yuri Ando completed her MFA in Oil Painting at the Graduate School of Art and Design, Musashino Art University in 2022.
For Ando, the pictorial space begins with existing motifs and emerges through a process of responding to both real landscapes and symbolic forms within the canvas. During the process of painting, elements of the actual landscape dissolve into the image and transform into something else, while certain concrete images remain. Through the continuous cycle of creation and disappearance, she aims to ultimately arrive at an open and evolving space.
Her paintings exist in a space where planning and improvisation occur simultaneously. Rather than serving as a reproduction of actual scenery, they are closer to a performance in film or music—an experience shaped through transformation, rhythm, and the unfolding of a moment.
