In the process of postwar development of modern art, a number of artists and works with unique philosophy and passion that can be transmitted from Japan to the world have emerged in the flow of Japanese modern art, which had its hands full in following and digesting Western art.
We would like to introduce a few of these artists.

SHIRAGA Kazuo
大正13（1924）兵庫～平成20（2008） 京都市立絵画専門学校（現：京都市立芸術大学）日本画科を卒業後、油絵に転向。吉原治良に学び、具体美術協会に参加。ロープに掴まり足を絵筆代わりにつかうアクション・ペインティングで知られた。文化功労者。
SAITO Yoshishige
明治37（1904）青森～平成13（2001）横浜 洋画家、造形作家。ダダや構成主義の影響を受けて前衛美術作家を志す。抽象絵画から出発したのち、レリーフによる半立体的構成作品など、平面と立体の両方に跨る造形表現を追求した。現代日本美術展最優秀賞、サン・パウロ・ビエンナーレ展国際絵画賞受賞。多摩美術大学教授。
NAKANISHI Natsuyuki
昭和10（1935）東京～平成28（2016）東京 美術家。東京藝術大学油画科卒。60年代に赤瀬川原平、高松次郎らとハイ・レッド・センターを結成し様々なパフォーマンスを実践。日本の前衛芸術の第一人者となった。また多くの舞台作品、舞踊作品の美術演出をつとめ、晩年は弧線のモティーフと白い筆触の集積と紫の色面へと移行しながら絵画そのものの構造を問う作品を展開した。女子美術大学客員教授。倉敷芸術科学大学教授。東京藝術大学名誉教授。
Lee Ufan
Born in Korea in 1936. Contemporary artist. After dropping out of Seoul National University College of Art, he came to Japan in 1956 to study philosophy at Nihon University. Studied philosophy at Nihon University, and from the late 1960s led an art movement with SUGA Kishio and SEKINE Nobuo that later became known as the Mono-ha. In 2010, the Lee Ufan Museum opened in Naoshima, Kagawa Prefecture.
YAMAGUCHI Takeo
明治35（1902）京城～昭和58（1983）東京 洋画家。本郷洋画研究所、川端画学校へ通い東京美術学校（現：東京芸術大学）で和田英作に学ぶ。卒業後パリへ渡り、佐伯祐三に大きな刺激を受ける。非具象作品を二科会を中心に作品を発表し、戦後は日本の抽象芸術の第一人者として国際展でも活躍し、内外で高い評価を得た。事物の根源を捉える明快なフォルムと色面が特徴。武蔵野美術学校（現：武蔵野美術大学）教授を務める。
